Everest High Passes Trek (19 Days)

On your date of arrival, Imperial Nepal Treks will be there to welcome you at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264 ft). We will pick you and shift you for an overnight accommodation as per booking. 

The Day after breakfast, you can check your personal equipment if any necessary thing you need we suggest to buy or rent in Kathmandu. You can visit part of the historical thing and prepare for the start next morning flight. Evening we offer you welcome dinner at a typical Nepali Restaurant where you will taste different varieties of Nepali food.

Today is the first day of the trek and our destination is Phakding. We will be escorted in a private vehicle to the Tribhuvan International Airport to board an early morning flight to Lukla. After 30-35 min the plane will finally land at the Lukla Airport (Tenzing Hillary Airport). On reaching the airport, we will be introduced to other crew members awaiting our arrival. At the same time, luggage will also be prepared for the porters. Once everything is set, the ultimate trek begins towards the destination of the day leaving Lukla behind. After four hours of downhill and flat trail experience, we finally reach Phakding. You can freshen up and rest for some time. Then we will go for a short walk in the village of Phakding or even a hike to nearby Gompas for acclimatization purpose. The night will be spent at a lodge in Phakding.

Today is the second day of the trek and our destination is Namche Bazaar. Without wasting a single minute we leave Phakding and move towards Monju crossing a few suspension bridges and small settlements. Monju is popularly recognized as the gateway to the Sagarmatha National Park. On reaching Sagarmatha National Park, the team leaders will take care of the necessary national park formalities at the entrance while you enjoy small tea houses and shops. We then enter the national park from where a vertical drop down the hill will bring us across a few suspension bridges. On crossing these bridges the trail leads uphill towards Namche Bazaar that offers the first view of Mt. Everest along with other peaks. The night will be spent at a lodge in Namche Bazaar.

Today you explore the Museum, visit Khumjung village and Khongde village where you can enjoy the views of Mt. Everest and surrounding peaks with Sherpa culture. You can also visit Thame which is old Sherpa village as an option. Remaining of the day you can explore Namche Bazaar where you can use the Internet, visit National Park head office, Muesuem and monastery as per your interest and time.  Stay overnight at Namche.

Hike to Thame begins after breakfast in Namche. The trail to Thame branches off west from the traditional Everest Base Camp Trek route in Namche. This clockwise flat trail first descends to Phurte past Gongla. Past Phurte, you will cross the Thesebu River and hike to the village of Thamo, which is a collection of old stone houses that make a perfect stop for a tea break. You will then hike to Samde following the trail that runs along the Bhote Koshi River. You will now hike down to cross the bridge over the Bhote Koshi River, before making a final ascent to Thame. You can spend the remaining day exploring the village and the monastery. Overnight in a lodge (twin-room) in Thame.

Today is the fifth day of the trek and our destination is Lumde. From Thame, following the south bank of the Bhote Koshi River, we ascend towards Marulung crossing several suspension bridges and passing various small settlements, monasteries, and Mane en route. On crossing a bridge before Marulung, we follow the north bank of the Bhote Koshi river and walk uphill to Lumde through the dry valley. On reaching Lumde, we rest for some time at the lodge and again hike above the lodge for the purpose of necessary acclimatization. The night will be spent at a lodge in Lumde.

After breakfast, the trail leads uphill for an hour and a half and then easy walk for a while. At the end, there is a hard climb to get to the top of the Renjo La from where you will have an awesome view of Mt. Everest with Mt.Nuptse with surrounding peaks. You will also see Gokyo lake which breathtaking views. From the top of the Renjo La, the trail drops down to the Third Lake (Gokyo lake) and get into the lodge. After time to get rest at the lodge at Gokyo, short climb to the ridge from where you will explore the Glacier which is amazing looking with its small glacier lakes. Stay overnight at Gokyo lodge. 

This is an easy day but we suggest you start early because you will have to walk through the Glacier which is the longest glacier of Nepal called Ngozumpa glacier. By the time of crossing this glacier, you will hear many sounds of the rock falling into the small glacier lake. There are many rocks on the way which has ice underneath. During the sunny day, ice melts pretty fast so we should cross this glacier before the sun gets strong. Once you get into the Thagnag, better to climb up to the small hill for acclimatizing. Stay overnight at the lodge.

Today is the hardest day of the trip. Start your day just after the breakfast which is steep climbing for a while and the trail drops down to the bottom of the Chola. After that, the trail leads you through the rock toward the top which is steep climbing. There are some Buddhist prayer flags on the top of the pass which has great views of the mountains. There is an icy part for a while and again the trail drops down through the huge rock and an easy walk at the end to get to the Dzongla. Stay overnight at the lodge.

After hot breakfast at the lodge, an easy downhill for a while and few up and down to the Lobuche. After refreshment look around Everest glacier and overnight at the lodge.

Then the trail leads toward Gorekshep through the rocky trail. On the way, you will have great views of the Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Pumori and more. You will be able to see Khumbu Glacier on the way. After few up-downs, you will reach Gorekshep which is located at the bottom of Kalapatthar. After reaching Gorekshap you can hike to Everest Base camp back to hotel  Stay overnight at the lodge.

Today is the eleventh day of the trek and our destination is Lobuche. Before heading to Lobuche we walk up to Kala Patthar which is the best vantage point in the entire Khumbu region. Today we start early, in fact, before breakfast to see the early morning sun rays striking the mountains. Initially, we hike for about two hours, which will take us to Kala Patthar. We observe the first rays of the sun striking the mountain. Then we hike down to Gorakshep, have breakfast and then walk towards Lobuche retracing the same trail used earlier. The night will be spent at a lodge in Lobuche.

Today is the twelfth day of the trek and our destination is Chhkhung. From Lobuche, on crossing the icy trail over Khumbu Glacier, we head towards the final destination of the trek and the highest pass (Kongma La – 5,535m) out of the three high passes. It’s a tough climb to the top of the Kongma La pass as the trail is icy and slippery. Also, the area lacks water resources and tea houses. Therefore, it is suggested to carry enough water to drink. After enjoying the view,  a steep downward trail will lead us to Lhangbo which is a junction of Everest Three High pass trail and Island peak trek trail. Leaving the main trail, we follow the Island Peak trek trail. On crossing Nuptse glacier, a short ascent will finally take us to Chhukhung. The night will be spent at a lodge in Chhukhung.

Today is an easy day which is downhill through the valley. The trail continues leads down to the Dingboche then after the walking valley gets change through few Sherpa villages. After Pangboche village the trail drops down to the river and cross the bridge. After that, the trail leads up to the Tengboche where the oldest Monastery situated on the top of the hill. Evening visit Monastery, see the Buddhist chanting ceremony and overnight at the lodge.

Today your day starts walking steep downhill through the Rhododendron forest. Once you get at the bottom of the hill, cross the bridge and steep climbing through the pine and Juniper forest to the Khumjung. After exploring the village at Khumjung, Lunch and continue walking to the Namche Bazaar for overnight.

Today is the last day of the trek and our destination is Lukla. Starting Namche, a 6-7 hour trek will finally take us to Lukla. The trail continues downhill towards the bridge over the Dudh Koshi River, where the Bhote Koshi River meets the Dudh Koshi River at Larja Dobhan. A slight descent from here will then take us to Monjo (entry and exit point of the Sagarmatha National Park). After the national park exit formalities, we walk down to cross a suspension bridge across Kyashar Khola, and following the east bank of the Bhote Koshi River, we further walk towards another bridge over the Bhote Koshi River. Now, following the west bank of the Bhote Koshi River, we walk down to Phakding. From Phakding, the trail descends till Thado Koshi Gaon, and a gradual ascent from here will finally take us to Lukla.  Today, after reaching Lukla, you can either spend your time with the crew member or opt for some alone time to recollect memories. The night will be spent at a lodge in Lukla.

Normally flights are always in the morning due to the weather. So guide will do all airport formalities by the time you can have a breakfast at the lodge. Your luggage will get into the airport already with the help of our sherpas and porters. Once guide gets news about your flight arrival at Lukla airport, will call you to watch how the small aircraft get lands into the small airstrip. After quick photograph, get into the airport and straight away get into the plane to fly out to Kathmandu. Once you are at the airport at Kathmandu, the guide will assist to get into your hotel by private vehicle.

The representatives from Imperial Nepal Treks will drop you to Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and assist you in your final departure from Kathmandu. We bid our last goodbyes and you will head towards your destination.
